The REAL Definition of Codependency

By Tanya Stuart, LCSW-BACS, LAC, CCS, IEDS

Course Overview

This training provides clinicians with a practical and evidence-based
understanding of codependency and its impact on individuals, couples, and
family systems. Participants will explore the true definition of
codependency, moving beyond common misconceptions to better understand the
relationship between control, boundaries, self-worth, and emotional
functioning. The course will review the signs, patterns, and
characteristics commonly associated with codependent behaviors and help
clinicians identify how these patterns develop and are maintained over
time. Participants will also have the opportunity to assess codependent
traits within themselves and their clients through self-reflection and
clinical application exercises. Evidence-based treatment techniques will be
presented to help clinicians support clients in developing healthier
boundaries, improving self-awareness, reducing enabling behaviors, and
fostering more balanced and effective relationships. Attendees will leave
with practical assessment tools and intervention strategies that can be
immediately integrated into clinical practice.
